Philip Coulson

Philip Coulson is a Senior Partner at Bowmans in Nairobi and heads the Corporate and Commercial Department of Coulson Harney LLP, which he co-founded in 2008. He specialises in corporate law, commercial transactions, capital markets, and property development, advising on acquisitions, take-overs, joint ventures, investments, corporate reorganisations, and commercial contracts.

Philip has advised Naivas Limited on a private equity investment by Amethis; JP Sa Couto on a USD 175 million public procurement tender with Moi University for Kenya's Digital Literacy Programme; AfricInvest Fund III on its investment in Silafrica Plastics; Mawingu Networks on investment by Vulcan Capital, International Network Investment LLC, and Microsoft Global Finance; WPP Plc on its acquisition of a majority stake in Scangroup Limited; and Old Mutual Property Africa on its USD 55 million investment in Two Rivers Mall. He has also advised UAP Holdings on its acquisition of a 60% stake in Century Insurance Company in Tanzania, Dimension Data Plc on its takeover offer for Access Kenya Group, and Emerging Capital Partners on its acquisition of a 90% stake in Nairobi Java House Limited.

Philip holds an LL.B from the University of Essex, UK, and is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current Solicitor's Practising Certificate from the Law Society of England and Wales. He is a member of the International Bar Association and Commonwealth Lawyers' Association.
