Elvis Wakaba

Elvis Wakaba is an Associate in the Banking & Finance and Real Estate Practice at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in fintech law, banking and finance law, and regulatory compliance. He advises on banking and finance transactions, real estate, and financial services regulation including banking, payment services, and fintech, with a focus on providing practical legal solutions to clients across multiple sectors.

Elvis has advised the Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank (TDB) on a USD 4,200,000 secured term facility to Sunspot Energy Kenya; Kenya Commercial Bank on facilities to a leading oil importer valued at approximately USD 150,000,000; Citibank N.A. Kenya on a KES 9.2 billion financing to the International Finance Corporation; a consortium of lenders led by Lendable Asset Management LLC on facilities to Terra Payment Services valued at approximately USD 300,000,000; and Greenlight Planet Kenya on a KES 15 billion receivables financing transaction. In the fintech space, he has advised a leading online foreign exchange broker on its license application to the Capital Markets Authority, MCF 2 Kenya on its digital credit provider license from the Central Bank of Kenya, Yellow Card Financial Inc. on regulatory matters relating to cryptocurrencies in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on financial services regulation in relation to a proposed product rollout in Kenya.

Elvis holds an LL.B from Jomo Kenyatta University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
