Michelle Karimi Kimonye

Michelle Karimi Kimonye is a Senior Associate in the Corporate Department at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in competition law and mergers and acquisitions. She has over eight years of competition and consumer protection law experience, advising a wide range of local and foreign clients on merger control, anti‑competitive business practices, and consumer protection across Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, and the COMESA region.

Michelle has acted as competition law counsel on high‑profile matters including Holcim's sale of its stake in Bamburi Cement to Amsons Group; KCB Group's sale of National Bank of Kenya to Access Bank; Coca‑Cola Beverages Africa's consolidation of bottlers in Kenya; Allianz SE's merger with Jubilee Insurance; and London Stock Exchange Group's acquisition of Refinitiv. She has also advised clients on dawn raid investigations, settlement negotiations, compliance checks, sector investigations, and legislative reviews, including the Kenyan Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the EAC Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Michelle holds an LL.B (Upper 2nd Class Hons) from the University of Nairobi, an LL.M (Merit) from Cardiff University with a specialisation in Competition Law, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
