Mumbi Kiragu

Mumbi Kiragu is an Associate in the Intellectual Property and Technology Practice at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in intellectual property law, data protection and privacy, and technology law. She advises local and international clients across multiple sectors on the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property rights, including trademarks, patents, industrial designs and copyright, as well as data protection and privacy compliance and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Mumbi has successfully represented a leading Kenyan shoe manufacturing company in trade mark expungement proceedings, a leading confectionery company in trade mark opposition proceedings, and a multinational gambling group in a domain name dispute mediation. She has advised a leading global e‑commerce company on IP considerations for the launch of a digital marketplace in Kenya, a United States‑based university on cross‑border data transfers and regulatory compliance, and a consortium of public and private sector entities on regulatory considerations for an AI‑enabled advisory platform. She has also contributed to due diligence for corporate transactions with a focus on data protection and intellectual property issues.

Mumbi holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Information Technology & Data Law from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and International Relations (Joint Honours) from the University of Edinburgh, and a Post‑Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
