Taria Khaoma

Taria Khaoma is an Associate in the Intellectual Property and Telecommunications, Media and Technology (TMT) Department at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in intellectual property law, data protection and privacy, and technology law. She has post-qualification experience in data privacy, technology law, and intellectual property law, with a keen interest in telecommunications, IP advisory and due diligence, privacy and data protection, and emerging technologies.

Taria has advised Google on data privacy, legislative review, gambling, artificial intelligence, and their impact on Google products; assisted data controllers and processors with data protection compliance including drafting privacy policies, conducting data protection impact assessments, and data protection trainings; managed trademark portfolios across Africa for clients including Getz Pharma, Diageo, Colgate-Palmolive, Jetlak Foods, and the Scotch Whisky Association; advised TikTok on personalised and non-personalised advertising by OTT and VOD service providers; and reviewed and negotiated a variety of commercial intellectual property contracts including software distribution and reseller agreements for CloudHop, retail store and ERP software agreements for Twiga Foods, and licensing and technology transfer agreements. She has also conducted intellectual property due diligence on technology companies, provided regulatory compliance services for start-ups across fintech, edtech, healthtech, and agrotech, and advised on business formation, corporate restructuring, statutory compliance, and data protection law.

Taria holds an LL.B from Strathmore University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, a member of the Law Society of Kenya, and a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) with the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
