Bernard Kirii

Bernard Kirii is a Senior Associate in the Tax Practice at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in tax law, tax advisory, and tax litigation. He advises a broad range of clients, including resident and non‑resident corporates, not‑for‑profit entities, family companies, and individuals, on tax compliance, tax planning, and associated legal questions.

Bernard has advised a leading global investor in sustainable infrastructure on the sale of its African energy platform, including the tax implications of capital gains tax on indirect transfers; Ring LLC on the launch of its products in Kenya and six other African markets; Expeditions Adventures and Safaris on the tax restructuring of its operations in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, and Mauritius; a leading global technology company on the impact of changes to Kenyan tax legislation; and a leading Kenyan retailer in a tax dispute with the Kenya Revenue Authority over the management and control of its holding company, which was settled out of court for a fraction of the original assessment. He has also advised on the restructuring of a leading family‑owned steel manufacturing company and a prominent family with significant real property in a tax‑optimal manner.

Bernard holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and an ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
