Matthew Philip Awolu

Matthew Philip Awolu is a Senior Associate in the Projects and Infrastructure Department at ALN Kenya | Anjarwalla & Khanna, specialising in infrastructure law, project finance, and energy law. He provides transaction advisory services to project sponsors developing small‑scale and large‑scale infrastructure and energy projects across Sub‑Saharan Africa, including corporate structuring advisory, legal due diligence, and drafting and negotiating project agreements.

Matthew has advised a consultancy firm on a regional fibre optic and infrastructure sharing project among Eastern and Southern African countries; a foreign investor on the development of a distillery project and power plant in Tanzania; and a foreign investor on a geothermal project in Kenya. Prior to joining ALN, he advised on the development of Nigeria's first integrated seaweed nursery and bio‑refinery project, the development and rehabilitation of an approximately 500‑kilometre liquid pipeline infrastructure under a concession arrangement with the Federal Government of Nigeria, a 961 MWp solar project with 443 MWh of utility‑scale battery energy storage across Nigeria, and a 40‑megawatt grid‑connected solar power plant in Zambia under the GET‑FiT Program.

Matthew holds an LL.B from Babcock University, Nigeria (2013), an LL.M from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland (2017), and is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
