Nelly Chepkoech

Nelly Chepkoech is a Senior Associate in the Tax Practice at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in tax law, tax dispute resolution, and tax advisory. She has over five years of experience supporting taxpayers through KRA audits, objecting to assessments, litigating before the Tax Appeals Tribunal, the High Court, and the Court of Appeal, and representing taxpayers in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

Nelly has advised Victoria Furnitures Ltd on setting up a Special Economic Zone Entity and the tax implications on its operations; Avenue Group Limited on director tax liability; a South Africa-based fund manager on restructuring its project companies in Kenya; SGA Kenya Limited on the tax treatment of gratuity provision on the transfer of a business as a going concern; and a steel manufacturing client on group restructuring across 11 African countries. She has also advised Turaco Kenya Limited on group holding structure, substance requirements, intellectual property transfer and licensing, and transfer pricing policy. She has represented Mawingu Networks Limited in a tax dispute on excise duty and M-Kopa Kenya in disputes on tax residency and deductibility of bad debts.

Nelly holds an LL.B from Kabarak University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
