Nairuko Kantai

Nairuko Kantai is an Associate in the Banking and Finance department at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in banking and finance law, project finance, and energy and infrastructure. She has acted for a number of clients in banking and finance, energy and infrastructure, and corporate commercial matters, with a focus on advising lenders, borrowers, and development finance institutions on complex financing transactions.

Nairuko has advised SACE, Unicredit Bank AG, and Unicredit S.p.A on an amendment to a multimillion Euro facilities agreement made to the Government of Kenya; PROPARCO on the restructuring of a secured loan of USD 8,000,000 to a large corporate entity in the hotel industry; Stanbic Bank Kenya on a development loan of up to USD 25,900,000 to Gateway CCI SEZ Limited; IFC and Proparco on secured facilities in connection with the cross-jurisdictional Kasada financing; Nedbank Limited, London Branch on loan facilities of up to USD 19,400,000 to Cold Solutions Kiambu SEZ; IFC on the transition from Libor from a Kenyan law perspective; and PROPARCO on its USD 20 million loan to Tourism Promotion Services Kenya and USD 12 million secured facilities to the Goodlife Group. She has also advised Glencore Singapore on carbon credits, and the Kenya Power and Lighting Company on the renegotiation of power purchase agreements.

Nairuko holds an LL.B from Strathmore University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and a Certified Mediator with the Mediation Training Institute International East Africa.
