Cornelius Kimamo Kigera

Cornelius Kimamo Kigera is a Partner and Head of the Finance Practice at Coulson Harney LLP (Bowmans Kenya) in Nairobi, specialising in banking and finance law, real estate law, and construction law. He advises on large‑scale transactions for a variety of clients across a range of sectors, with significant experience in syndicated lending, project finance, and property transactions.

Cornelius has advised Standard Bank of South Africa Limited (and other lenders) on credit facilities of USD 270 million to a telecommunications group; Africa Finance Corporation on the restructuring of facilities of up to USD 50 million advanced to ARM Cement Limited; UAP Holdings Limited on a USD 35 million term loan facility from Nedbank; Wananchi Group on a USD 72 million loan facility from OPIC; and Kenya Commercial Bank on a KES 5 billion facility to the County Government of Nairobi. He has also advised developers Hello Properties Limited and Lagoon Developments Limited on the Mandharini development, which won the international development award for the best residential development in Africa in 2011, as well as Actis, East African Breweries, PwC, and Norfund on various high‑value real estate and financing transactions.

Cornelius holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi, a Diploma from the Kenya School of Law and the Institute for the Management of Information Systems, and is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Public Secretary. He is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Kenya Branch), where he is an Associate Member (ACIArb).

He is ranked in Band 2 for Banking and Finance by Chambers Global (2026), Band 3 for Real Estate (2026), and as a Leading Partner for Banking, Finance and Capital Markets as well as Real Estate and Construction by The Legal 500 (2023–2026). IFLR1000 has rated him as a Market Leader for Banking (2025), having previously been recognised as Highly Regarded and a Rising Star in the same category.
