Sarmar Ang'awa

Sarmar Ang’awa is an Associate in the Tax Practice at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in tax advisory law, tax compliance, and tax dispute resolution. Drawing from her diverse exposure across several legal disciplines and prior experience at one of the top leading audit firms in Kenya, she brings a unique perspective to tax advisory and compliance matters.

Sarmar has assisted in developing policy and drafting bills to align the East African Community Customs regime with Kenya's revenue frameworks, including Special Economic Zones. She has participated in tax dispute resolution cases concerning customs, conducted in-depth reviews of statutory compliance in recognised tax-exempt Customs Areas, and advised on tax-efficient structuring for financial institutions and high-value corporate transactions.

Sarmar holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi, a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from KCA University, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is a finalist in the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification.
