Sylvia Mukuna

Sylvia Mukuna is a Senior Associate in the Corporate Commercial Department at Bowmans in Nairobi, specialising in mergers and acquisitions and private equity. She advises local and international clients on complex transactions across various sectors, leveraging her background as a certified financial accountant to navigate legal and financial issues in pursuit of client business goals.

Sylvia has advised the Holcim Group on the sale of shares in Bamburi Cement PLC; Lipton B.V. on the sale of its tea estates in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda; IBL Energy Ltd and STOA S.A on the sale of a minority stake in Equator Energy Ltd; Style Industries Limited on the sale of its hair products business; Coca-Cola Sabco (East Africa) on the acquisition of a majority stake in Almasi Beverages; Bioline Agrosciences on the acquisition of Dudutech; AfricInvest on its acquisition of a minority stake in AutoXpress; Oserian Development on the sale of its flower business; mPharma Africa on the acquisition of a majority stake in Haltons; and UAP Old Mutual Group on the restructuring of its life insurance business. She has also advised Kenya Airways PLC on its proposed nationalisation and merger with Kenya Airports Authority, Commercial Bank of Africa on its USD 4.4 billion merger with NIC Bank PLC, and Kenya Airways on its 2017 balance sheet restructuring valued at over USD 2 billion.

Sylvia holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, and is an ACCA qualified accountant. She is a member of the Law Society of Kenya and an affiliate member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

She was ranked as a Rising Star by IFLR1000's Financial and Corporate Guide for her work in Kenya in 2025.
